BWCS INTENSIFIES ELLNP-SLAC IMPLEMENTATION
One of the must-adapted programs under the implementation of the K to 12 Program is the conduct of the Learning Action Cell (LAC) which aims to provide primary teachers the necessary skills and enhance their competence in delivering quality instruction to pupils, especially in reading and numeracy.
Baao West Central School responded to the DepEd’s call with earnestness for the good of its pupils. The school deliberately embraced the School-Based Learning Action Cell (SLAC) with its teachers who are ever-ready for the implementation of the new program. SLAC is religiously being conducted at BWCS, having one trained SLAC facilitator and principal.
Teachers, on the other hand, are proactive SLAC members. They see it as an opportunity to develop their personal and hone professional qualities as teachers. It serves as a major leap forward for the school: pupils were motivated, classrooms were customized to be more conducive places for learning, teachers were empowered, and most importantly parents got informed and involved.
SLAC is being conducted regularly and it enables the teachers to keep abreast with the latest and appropriate trends in teaching. Regular SLAC meetings also helps teachers device ways in coming up with a simple yet effective learners’ haven inside their respective classrooms through the ELLNP/Reading Corner. SLAC also provides a chance for the teachers to make effective and interesting instructional materials and share among themselves their best practices used in teaching.
Teachers have their individual SLAC folders where they compile their materials used like handouts, reflection papers, and other significant forms for the purpose of systematic monitoring and consistent follow up and review of the learnings gained in SLAC meetings.
Like many other programs, this activity also faces this one difficult problem: time constraints. But teachers find ways to address it along the way. We conduct Saturday SLAC meetings to make up the missed supposed meeting on a Friday. Yet, despite of the challenges came across in implementing this program, teachers observes fruitful outcomes from the program. Among the pupils, the number of non-reader and non-numerates decreases, gradually.
Teachers in this program are the most benefited. Success of this program lies to them and when it happens, it leads to greater learning and “better pupils’ performance”.
Baao West Central School is just on its second year of SLAC implementation and it is already a great leap towards teachers’ and learners’ positive holistic transformation.
